Take, for example, the I-35 bridge collapse in Minneapolis. It would
take a while for Google's coders to enter the information into the
routing database.
If you're driving to visit your aunt on a Sunday, and the route takes
you over that bridge, you can afford to lose 20 minutes when you get
to the bridge and find out that it is closed.
For a patient in an ambulance, those 20 minutes can be the difference
between life and death, and you wouldn't want the family of the
deceased suing you for leading the ambulance to the wrong route.
Luckily, I believe that ambulance drivers, as well as police and fire
fighters, get instant information about such events from other
sources. ;-)
