Quite right - I completely imagined it, shame on me!! There is a feature request for it you could 'star' .. http://code.google.com/p/gmaps-api-issues/issues/detail?id=110 Meantime I think the only way to change a marker icon, size and all, is to remove the existing GMarker and create a new one.
