It remains possible that some IE specific kludge, err, workaround
embedded in the GM API is going wrong with IE8.  Or something subtle
like IE8 RC1 doesn't identify itself properly.

I'd be inclined to raise it as an API issue, armed with your
demonstrator.  The API claims to work with 'IE6+' which includes IE8,
and getting the click location wrong is pretty basic.
