It's not just the signup page, it's also the Hello World example here: http://code.google.com/apis/maps/documentation/introduction.html#The_Hello_World_of_Google_Maps The blurb actually says "The easiest way to start learning about the Google Maps API is to see a simple example. The following web page displays a 500x300 map centered on Palo Alto, California," except it doesn't. It fails if you just replace the dummy key with your own, and the paragraph explaining sensor=true_or_false is several inches down the page. In the signup page (eg http://www.google.com/maps/api_signup?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com) it still uses sensor=true_or_false with no explanation AND there's a line-break after it which will break the script call.
