Since it sounds like this is a professional installation and your client expects professional results, you might want to purchase a subscription to the USPS city-state product which comes out monthly and contains every US zip code. The Google geocoder is never up to date, never has been and probably never will so relying on it will eventually cause errors from a user. There are also companies that produce a zip code list updated two to four times a year that contain a centroid point, so you could use that exclusively as your geocoder instead of Google's one. The costs are usually less than $200 a year for such a list (the City-state product is $350/year I believe).
