>From the top of my head, I can't see anything wrong with that method, as long as you don't create a bow-tie when adding the point, that is, you'd have to make sure you add the point in between the two closest points of the original polygon. What worries me a bit is that the method sounds surprisingly simple, but I can't think of a way to make it fail.
