It *can* be done but (since you're posting from the UK) I assume you're talking UK postcodes. The API only geocodes the "outbound" part of the code, so "AB27 8RT" will be located at the centroid of the AB27 district, along with every AB27 postcode. That's akin to using the five-digit US zipcode, which identifies a delivery area. It's far more accurate to use full addresses.
