You can turn all emails off in the MyAccount>ManageSubscriptions page and then turn on 'Email updates to me' on the Options menu on the discussion page of interest.
However, by turning off all emails you are not getting valuable information on how other people are using/abusing the Maps API. My personal approach is to turn off all emails, but get the original post of each discussion sent to me on the RSS feed.
