There were no problems with the servers. It's possible that local traffic affected downloads of the API, but it's extremely unlikely. However, there *were* problems for site owners who unwisely use 2.x for live sites: they just got a grey map and a Javascript error. Unfortunately as MikeD has never given a link to any of his maps, it's not possible to say whether this was the cause or not.
