var icon = markers[i].getAttribute("icontype");
icon is a string. You need to pass a GIcon to your createMarker
function (or translate it to a GIcon there).
You have an array of GIcons all set to do the translation.
gicons[icon] would be a GIcon (assuming that the icontype is a valid
member of the array).
