They wouldn't be appropriate on say a marker or an infowindow. GGeoXml produces (from kmz/kml) another kind of overlay which isn't appropriate either.
To do what you want, you need direct access to the GPolygon objects which you can't easily get from GGeoXml. There are alternative KML parsers if you search this group.
