there are several ways.
you can use the origin marker manager, some extendes version i saw by
some powerusers here.
or you can filter on the serverside by forcing your visitors to choose
a subset of markers (maybe category-driven), implement a cluster
solution or handle it on the client side (your self suggested bounds
check).
