If you open your map in a browser then enter this:
javascript:gicons["blue"]=new GIcon(G_DEFAULT_ICON);gicons
["blue"].image="mapicons/marker_blue.png";map.addOverlay(new GMarker
(map.getCenter(),{icon:gicons["blue"]}))
in the address bar, it will put a (slightly distorted) blue icon at
the center of your map...

(the icon is distorted because the image that you are using is not the
same proportions as the default icon)
