Normally it doesn't matter, it's just that in this particular case the 
XML file hogs one channel for a long time, creating a bit of a 
bottleneck on the other channel.

Observe that Google do it all the time: The map tile fetches are spread 
equally across four subdomains, mt0.google.com, mt1.google.com, 
mt2.google.com, mt3.google.com, which all resolve to the same set of 
servers.
