for the drawing toolset, check out the geometrycontrols in the google
dev library

they mimic the mymaps tools, and can easily be overriden to do what
you want.
here's a site I used the geometrycontrols with, and added the behavior
of finding points within the polygon:

http://ruffapp.ornith.cornell.edu/cub-test/maps/map

to see it in action, create a polygon around some points, and then
either click or mouse over the chart. For future users, these changes
will
be permanently added here
