Bear in mind that the free API is only intended for use on publicly
accessible webpages (acording to the terms you agreed to when you
obtained a key).   There'd be no use for the API in supporting local
imagery, so I'm not at all suprised that it doesn't.   Even if it did,
I'd rather hope my browser would prohibit other peoples webpages from
rummaging around my local files.
