Thanks Mike, that was helpful but in the end I went with the code on
Pil's website. The More button appeared immediately and I also had the
benefit of the traffic overlay.

One thing with it though was that the text labels for the check boxes
were white text on white background (you couldn't seen the text in
other words) so I added a line to the unpacked version to style the
font colour (line 435 when viewed in Dreamweaver):

  line 434 - me.layerboxDiv.style.backgroundColor = "#fff";
  add this line between ----> me.layerboxDiv.style.color = "#000000";
  line 435 me.layerboxDiv.style.border = "1px solid gray";

If anyone else has this problem, feel free to download the revised
version I'm using of the javascript file with the added color style
from:

Then I repacked it using a free online Javascript compressor. The
labels for the check boxes show fine for me now, must have been some
CSS being inherited from my own map.
