Thanks so much to you both for replying. Both of you have given me
lots of things to think about.

Firstly, I've dumped GGeoXml. Using a bunch of search-and-replaces and
some hunting and pecking, I converted the contents of the My Maps RSS
feed into pure XML, and adapted Mike Williams' example to create a
full map and sidebar:

http://stillepost.ca/calendar/mapxmltest.html

(Some venues have corresponding address information and others don't
-- the ones that don't are ones that I used "Save to My Maps" to add.
It seems the details for those ones are saved in some other way. I
guess means I have to go through them and copy/paste their address
info out of their info boxes and add it to the XML file. Sigh.)

The venues don't move around, but I do add a couple per month. It
wouldn't be hard to mark them up in XML by hand, though.

I still haven't figured out how best to store/retrieve the XML venue
list, and I'm still just not getting how to form a request for a map
with just that one venue. I've definitely been in over my head here,
but at least I'm learning things. I'll go back to the docs...
