I'm not sure what you're asking or trying to acheive here.

Following the guidelines for good HTML, doctype, map placing in a
<div> etc. and your page now works I think??

Are you worrying about why NOT following the guidelines may work
better in some API versions or browsers than others?

You do realise that when you ask for API v=2 you get served updated
versions of the API from time to time. If you want to always keep the
same API version and not have it change for a long time, you must ask
for some specific version.
