That is an interesting idea - in my app usually wanting just to change the image / tooltip of an existing marker, so actually I would be more interested in the method of changing the tooltip and images "on the fly" - I don't necessarily need the whole cache.
The API document appears to suggest that I can change the image, but any idea how I'd go about changing the tooltip ? With respect to the memory leak, I take it you can't see any problems with my example ? If not I think it needs to be looked at by someone at Google, because this is a recently introduced bug that will cripple IE6 users of google maps that have refreshing markers.
