This is also happening to me on W2k with FF3.0.10 and Firebug 1.3.3.
Only pages on my site with Google maps are showing this problem,
hanging with the status bar reading "Transferring data from www.google.com..."
Clicking the red cross icon to stop loading and then shift-clicking
reload enables the page to load.
Examples are:

I'm glad to read here that it is probably not happening to the
majority of my users!
