As well as being aware of the GDirections speed limit, you should be aware that calling .loadFromWaypoints() a second time using the same GDirections instance will destroy the data currently held by that GDirections instance. That may mean that you'll need to take a .copy() of the .getPolyline().
Instead of manually digitising lots of points to start with, it might be worth considering starting with the GDirections start-to-end route and adding in waypoints one by one until the GDirections route matches the actual route.
