This Example does use Postgres (with PostGIS)
http://www.mapsinternational.co.uk/gmap/postoffices/test_buffer.php

finds the nearest post offices. (but can be any information, like
sports venues)
(enter 'ox4' & 'ox2') then press 'go' wait for google directions to
generate  the route
then press 'get points'
then the magic happens...
