I can't reproduce this at all with FF2.
I get no meaningful map at all with IE6, this seems to be a
manifestation of creating the map in a zero-sized div.
Search this group for 'top left'.
An observation on that is that the controls end up in the left-hand
column, outside the map area, suggesting there's something awry with
the positioning in your CSS.

You're mixing Gxxx and google.maps. syntax; as you're using the
conventional API script loader its probably best to stick with Gxxx
forms.

The xmlns attribute in your <html> has a typo
