For a 'proof of concept' I don't need this to be accurate to one or two frames, more like one or two seconds.
If a video player like VLC or Media Player can work out where they are within a video file (they all display a time counter) and the GPS data contains the GPS clock then I would have thought it can be done relatively easily, but then I haven't tried to do it yet so of course it could be very difficult as you suggest.
