Have a look at http://econym.org.uk/gmap/basic3.htm

For a more advanced example, see http://www.lanerealty.com.au/HomesMap.html
and it's associated xml file: http://www.lanerealty.com.au/HomesMap.xml
(View Source)

I maintain the data by editing the xml file directly, cutting and
pasting from other material. However you have to be careful of html
syntax - refer back to the first example.

However, getting third parties to put valid xml could be dangerous.
Even comma delimited text files can be traps for the unwary!! You may
have to transfer the data yourself by interpreting user input and
writing valid xml arguments. It depends on how often you have to do
it. Otherwise it's back to the database.
