That's right, they are examples of how to go about it.
You would need to adapt the server-side code to your needs.  After
all, its only about outputting XML from sqlserver2005.  That part
isn't about maps at all.

Once you can output XML, all the client-side html, javascript and maps
stuff is the same.  If you can't manage that, the project may be
beyond your current skills.  If you want somebody to write code for
you, you may have to pay them.
