W3C doesn't validate javascript, they validate html. If you want to validate your javascript, try running it through http://jslint.com. (Warning: JSLint will hurt your feelings.) You may have changed the issues I noted, but you didn't correct them. You are no longer calling the makeSidebar function at all.
