It seems that you only want to display the related markers and
polylines for the directions but not the details that are normally
displayed inside of an extra panel. In this case directions for
walking wouldn't work.

But if you build all the returned stuff for directions yourself, i.e.
reading and rearranging GRoutes and GSteps, it should be possible to
add an additional layer over the map with that warning inside.

I haven't tried that so far, but it should be possible.
