To check the map I disabled the css files and added this
map = new GMap2(document.getElementById("map"),{size:new GSize(700,900)});
the map worked ok and the Google logo was in the correct position.
Therefore it seems that there is a css problem, possibly
connected with size, using percentages and hiding the
map is a tall order.
