Thanks for your help guys but I had a look at the data again and figured out that it was a very simple error that I had overlooked.
I had been testing on my laptop and I had forgotten that I had changed the headings of the lat/lng columns from Lat/Long to lat/lng to be more in line with the example I was working on. Once it was working on my laptop I simply uploaded the html and php files to my domain server. I had totally forgotten that I had not changed the Lat/Long columns in the database I have online to reflect the new lat/lng designations. Very simple error that I would not have picked up if it were not for the comment that I had empty strings being created.
