How up to date is the GMaps feature availability spreadsheet (http:// gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/mapcoverage_filtered.html)?
It looks like it was last updated on Aug 25 so it's relatively recent, but it lists Japan as not having driving directions available even though I'm able to retrieve them with GDirections. (See http://brewerymaps.crunchyfrog.net/?route_start=Kyoto%2CJapan&route_end=Hiroshima%2CJapan&show_steps=true for an example.) I'm not having much luck specifying any locations more specific than cities (maybe I need to use the native character set?), but at least general city-to-city directions, and lat/lng coordinates, are working despite what the spreadsheet says. If the driving directions just became available in the last week I'd attribute it to lag time in updating the spreadsheet, but I started seeing driving directions in Japan about three weeks ago.[1] Does anyone know if there's a particular reason that the spreadsheet would show Japan as not having driving directions available? Are the in beta, incomplete, or maybe someone just forgot to update the spreadsheet? The main reason for my query is that I have a program that periodically downloads the spreadsheet and updates a database table that contains a column that specifies whether driving directions are available in each country. Right now, based on the spreadsheet data, my database doesn't show driving directions as being available in Japan (at least until I manually update it) so users have no (easy) way to get driving directions to/from POIs in Japan. [1] I first became aware of driving directions in Japan when I was testing my error reporting by trying what I thought would generate an error and instead got a trans-Pacific route. Specifically, a journey from Fubar, Arizona (according to Google such a place does exist) to Perth, Australia requires three kayak legs across the Pacific with a short overland journey in Hawaii and a much longer overland journey through Japan. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
