1: I can't see the problem because your map is far larger than my laptop screen and you have deliberately suppressed scrollbars. So I can't see the scale or get at the maptype control. But I have reproduced it with another map. 2: I suppose you could pick up the maptypechanged event and do your own checking against getMinimumResolution and getMaximumResolution for the new map type, and explicitly zoom to the right level. I reckon it's worth raising this as an issue. The same thing happens on maps.google.com.
