The issue with deciding what is a "final" solution is that because there is nothing in the API itself, different solutions are developed for different circumstances. What works fine for its developer might not be suitable for re-use elsewhere. In my view, Nate's is one of the best solutions, explained in this thread http://groups.google.com/group/google-maps-api/browse_thread/thread/23d5467e4211c143 to which you have already contributed. However, his solution which is obviously fine for him is presumably not fine for you. Time to get your developing hat on, perhaps.
