I am trying to implement a radius search similar to rightmove and need advice on how to calculate the bounds of an area. I guess I would somehow need to know the co-ordinates of the 4 outer corners of the area. I have no idea how one would go about this.
The area may be a city or a county etc The way rightmove works is if for example you do a search for within 5 miles of Oxford, it draws a rectangle around the bounds of Oxford and then adds 5 miles in all directions. See http://www.rightmove.co.uk/this-site...l#searchRadius Any advice how to calculate this oter bounds for any area? I need this to be done dynamically every time someone does a search on my site. Unless of course there is a way to pre-compute this data for every area - though there are 20,000 towns in the UK so this may be best done on the fly. I am dealing with UK locations only.
