Yes this is partially what I'm after, here is something similar, which
fires a id ref link on the timeline above, which in turn links to a
cluster of images:
http://galerie.zarovi.cz/

However, in these examples, only one image is shown on the map.

I would require the ability to show a (potentially large) collection
of images from one location and be able to click each thumbnail to
load a full size image. Which is why I thought it best to go down the
interrogated datasource route... I am open to suggestions but I did
want the gallery to show thumbnails and large images.
