I was obviously simplifying... recognition of current location in a
Hippocampus-style mental map occurs, in theory, after the processing
of visual stimuli.
In other words: if you see your area, and you know it, you'd be able
to deduce where you are and hence, where to go to get to another place
you know.

It's research.
