In the absence of links for debugging, I'm tempted to say that your
php installation is outputting RTF for some reason. It doesn't
immediately appear to be an API issue.

However, since RSS is simply a specialised XML, it would seem more
efficient to get your map code to load and parse that natively rather
than pass it through another parser into a different form of XML. The
RSS feed itself is valid. Links would help diagnosis.
