Google Maps uses http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator_projection
There is plenty of formular around to convert to/from Mercator coordinates. Distances worked out in rectlinear coordiantes will be approximate, because the projection is non linear. 2009/10/24 Nick <[email protected]>: > > Does google maps API provide any means of mapping the longitude/ > latitude to a 2d projection? basically, it must - as it maps it to a > visible map on the screen. > > The reason I ask is so that I can do simpler maths to work out > locations (by storing the 2d projection location, its a simpler and > quicker formulae to work out distance). > > > > -- Barry - www.nearby.org.uk - www.geograph.org.uk - --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Google Maps API" group.
