Well, the blog article you quoted states: "For example, the San Francisco Place Page will be found at google.com/ places/us/california/san-francisco-city" ... so, guessing others is not all that difficult.
It looks as if anything that the geocoder can identify will be there, in the same format as you'd pass to the geocoder, also ordinary addresses, like: http://maps.google.com/places/750%20w%20adams%20st.,%20chicago ... and also in other countries than the US: http://maps.google.com/places/buckingham%20palace http://maps.google.com/places/casa%20rosada ... and even by Lat/Lon!! http://maps.google.com/places/41.877997,-87.638476 What more do you want?
