I dont think there is a 'off the shelf' function to do this, and don't
know of anyone having created a generic component.

But it shouldnt be too hard to implement in javascript with the modest
number of markers you talk about, but it will need some work. The
basic premise, loop though your placemarks, determine if match the
query and the hide/show each one
