Where to start on programming a map? If I would like to take a small area on a map, and then use this small area for a gps application, where would I start?
How are maps "programmed"? e.g. how is the gps device able to give the user a route according to roads, rather than just linking the starting point to the destination through bushes, parking lots, buildings etc? I have been searching and reading a lot about the topic but I cannot seem to find a starting point. I would like to know where to start on this project, because this will be the first step in a small gps application which will find routes within this small map area.
