'maptypechanged' event captures the 'click' you mentioned and
getCurrentMapType() returns the 'mode'.
GEvent.addListener(map, 'maptypechanged', function(type){
if(map.getCurrentMapType() == G_SATELLITE_3D_MAP ){
alert("3D");
}
});
