You could use a modified version of Bill Chadwick's latlon graticule, but the rectangles would not be an exact number of land units. http://www.bdcc.co.uk/mendip.html http://www.bdcc.co.uk/LatLonGraticule.js If you want perfect squares on the screen, their land size will differ depending on latitude. If you want an exact land size then the screen size of the squares would also change with latitude.
