The api works as advertised.

With 200-500 markers, I would need to add marker clustering anyway...

I've got a quick example using my kml file up.  (http://
www.stjohnhistoricalsociety.org/egeoxml.htm).

I guess I'm going to need to learn more about kml->balloon rendering
that I ever wanted to!
