I have a map (http://gce-aux.marsci.uga.edu/gismap/BirdPop/ MAPSmapBCR.html) with a lot placemarks, which loads way too slowly (I've disabled the loading in this example).
One idea I had was to use a kml overlay and put a button in each polygon for the user to click. After clicking the button the map will zoom to that region and load only the placemarks associated with that polygon.
