No, and it wouldn't really be worth it for a few markers as you mentioned first. It would be worth it for a vast number of markers, and I suppose a similar system to encoded polylines could be devised, where a string representing geographic positions could be interpreted for the placement of inert dots like Bill Chadwick's example http://www.bdcc.co.uk/Gmaps/BdccGmapBits.htm or Google's tiny circle markers.
