William's explanation uses GDownloadUrl for retrieving JSON from his own server. To retrieve JSON from another/ remote server, that server needs to have enabled JSONP (JSON with Padding), which allows the client to specify a callback function for handling the results. GDownloadUrl will not work with remote requests, like calling Google's Elevation Service.
