When you say transit layer, do you mean the GTrafficOverlay?  The gwt-maps
project has that support, but since we haven't created an official release
of gwt-maps in a while, you'll need to build a .jar file from the svn
repository:

If you can find a feature in the Maps JavaScript library and can't find it
in the gwt-maps project, please create an issue for it
http://code.google.com/p/gwt-google-apis/issues/list if it doesn't already
exist.
