The Web History which is described in that article is not supported by
the Maps API (There may be another API which allows access to it, but
security would be a nightmare).

If you want a "Suggest as you type" solution, then that's not
available through a Maps service either. You need to use another data
provider. For example: http://www.achurchnearyou.com/ does this. Type
"abin" and suggestions from Abingdon and Abington are displayed, along
with "St Sabinus, Woolacombe" which also contains the string "abin".
This uses our own database; you might be able to use a Geonames.org
service, or get gazetteer data which you can host yourself.

So the usual solution which is advocated is the "Did you mean"
solution which Mike demonstrates at http://econym.org.uk/gmap/didyoumean.htm
